Soon to be aggressive tank...

Hey guys,
I just had to share my great news with my BB family!! Yesterday we just got our 55 gallon tank in and I am really excited. (A friend gave it to us for free which was even better!) It is in great shape, but the only thing is that the stand is an iron stand, so we are going to build a wood stand this weekend for it. This just means that I am one step closer to getting my porc puffer, and then getting a lionfish. I also would like to add a third fish, but don't know yet what we want. One question for you guys, should I add the porc puffer and the lionfish to the tank at the same time? I am new to aggressive setups because all i have right now is a 20 gallon reef. So any help from you guys would be wonderful. Anyways, thanks for letting me share my news with you guys!! :) :D

Glad to hear you got the tank. Sounds like you're gonna be getting it set up soon, too. All the better. I actually had an iron stand too at one point but unfortunately as you already know it rusts pretty quickly. Anyways, I would add the lion first which I am assuming it will be a Dwarf lion. Lions are extremely hardy fish and can survive through a lot. Add the Puffer next just because the lion is a bit more hardier. I would recommend a Snowflkae eel for the 3rd fish. They are hardy, relatively easy to feed and care for, and aren't too aggressive. What else could you ask for? However they do seem to be good at escaping so be sure to have a completely covered top on the tank. Hope to see more questions in the future about the tank (and the lionfish) ;)

Hey Congrates to you on your new tank! I agree with lionfish about the snowflake eel. We have one, he is awesome. We hand feed ours and he never bother anyone. Our cleaner shrimp even climb into his mouth and he has never tryed to eat him, well that we've seen anyway, but I don't think he would get back in there if he did. I think one would make a great addition to your tank if you'd want an eel. :D

We are actually considering a snowflake eel as our third addition to the tank. The only thing that is turning us off is the fact that we went to the lfs yesterday to look at eels and the guy there had gotten bit by one earlier that day when he was trying to get him out of the tank. Hmmmmmm I think they are neat creatures but I have to admit I am a little scared about the eel biting me. What do you guys think? Are snowflakes known for being calm, or for biting there keepers??? Also LIONFISH.... I was debating on either a dwarf lionfish, or a fu man chu. Which one do you think would do better with a porc puffer and a snowflake eel? Thank you for replying guys, I was just so excited that I had to tell someone. :D

Well, actually you can get either of the 2 you prefer as they are both quite hardy. The Fu Manchu is my least favorite of all the lions. Actually, I like all lions a lot except for the Fu Manchu. So, I really urge people to get the Dwarf Lion. Also, eels are known to sometimes try to escape out of the tank. Is it a common thing to get bit? Not really but it happens every once in awhile. But eels have rather poor eyesight so they basically try to catch food by using instinct and smell. Not really the best at telling between people and food. But overall, they are one of the calmest aggressive fish to be found, but like I said you must keep a cover on the tank or they can escape. Just a fair warning. Overall, I think the Porc Puffer, Snowflake eel, and Dwarf Lion should be fine together. Hope this helps.

Thank you guys for the advice and helping me out, I am almost certain now that I will go with a porc puffer, Dwarf lionfish, and a Snowflake eel. LIONFISH...how come the fu man chu lionfish is your least favorite? Anything I should know about them? I don't know a whole lot about Fu Man Chu's so I figured I would ask. Gee I can't wait to get my tank set up...this is going to be expensive....but oh so much fun!!!!!!! :D
