MY flame does the same things sometimes. I've traced it to something spooking him. He usually recovers quite nicely. Hope you have the same outcome, it sounds like you will.

My lemonpeel did the same thing until I got enough rock in the tank where he can go hide. I havent seen him do it since. I think half the battle in keeping a thriving angel fish is plenty of hiding spaces.

The fish scrapping against rocks is a sign of some kind of parasitic disease, at least I thought. Whenever I see my fish doing that over and over I treat my water with some kind of medication. I can't give you any advice on which one to get. Anybody know the best?

what other fish are in the tank? is there anything that chases it? If your water levels are "PEEEEEERFECT", and it is alone in the tank. I have heard of hawks spazzing out every now and then, but 3 days sounds like much. I would not sweat it just yet, especially if he is eating well. But if it keeps it up for longer than a week, i would suspect something a little more serious. You might try the D/T page for better info.

A water chaneg can never hurt. Although if there was something in the water it would probably be affecting all the fish.

It could have cyanide poisening,at the lfs that I used to work at if we got the flames from the phillipines, they would do that.If it ends up dead for no reason that would be why it died. How long have you had it?

UPDATE:
sadly, my fish flamey, has a parasite disease called oodinium. i have found this out after consulting with a local marine biologist. the tank is currently being treated with an oodinium REEF SAFE... YES I SAID REEF SAFE.....medication. It is imported from germany. i hope it all goes well. for those of you who do not know what oodinium is read along...........
OODINIUM: oodinium "i have found out" is a parasite disease. it is not possible to spot it like ich because it is too small. the bad thing is is that it kills fish rapidly and can infect other fish. Oh nO! it usually caues discoloration, hard breathing and scratching. I would look for it or talk to a marine specialist if ur fish acts like what i have stated in the first post of this post. Good luck to everyone. I hope my flamey lives!

Ooodinium can be seen on fish and normally takes on the appearance of a yellow-gold or rust colored "dusting" appearance. As if fine powder has been sprinkled on the fish. It is much smaller than ick and is not like salt dots.
Sorry its taken so long to post to your problem, Flame, but you've placed your thread in the wrong Forum. It should go in Disease, thus, I am going to move it for you.
Oodinium will wipe a whole tank out within just a couple of days, which is why I wonder if your diagnosis is correct. I would be interested in knowing what kind of "reef safe" medication was suggested to you. Normal treatment for Oodinium usually requires toxic chemical treatment with copper, or, more better, formaldahyde treatments. All fish will need to be treated.
In any case, I'm moving you to Disease Forum. TerryB can also comment on your problem. He has written a good deal about this disease, if you will use your search feature you can read up on what he has to say.
Good Luck!
