SoundProof

Has anyone ever tried to install some soundproofing materials into an aquarium stand do help deaden the sound of the water trickle and skimmer? Any success?

I have seen several stands taht have foam egg crate surrounding the insides for sound deadening purpose. I know there is this stuff called DYNOMAT that is available at car audio stores that they use do deaden vibrations on door panels and trunks. it comes in like 1.5 x 1.5ft squares. 15 bucks each though so i could get spendy and not ever work.
Just a thought

I went and bought some sound dampening foam from McMaster (like $20 for a 4-1/2' by 4-1/2' roll). This weekend I'll put some carpeting on the bottom of the stand and then layer the walls with the stuff and see what happens. Who knows. We'll see I guess. I'm just trying to silent the damn skimmer.

If you dont want to hear anything, and can afford the cost, I suggest buying Acustic Tiling. This is a soundproofing tile that is used in music studios, as well as hotels and many other types of buildings.
You can find it at Home Depot or any other major hardware store near you, the only problem is the cost.

I used a sound insulated foam from McMasterCarr last night. I covered everything from the back walls, to the doors, sides... You get the point. It deadened the sound 90%. All I hear is a slight hum from the skimmer. My wife doesn't even mind the sound now. Amazing stuff.

I know this is a really old thread but I couldn't find a newer thread concerning soundproofing. I looked on McMasterCarr but they have all different types of foam. Can you please tell me what type you got that worked so well? Also did you cover the entire inside of your stand? Thank you.
