Hey, everybody. I'm getting ready to switch to LS, and get rid of the CC. It seems the local Home-you-know-what doesn't carry southtown brand, and will NOT order it for me. If I use all natures ocean, there goes the case of LR I was going to order to reseed all the stuff I killed with hyposalinity :( So does anone know of any alternatives I can get, here in Oregon? Thanks in advance.

I think MR. SALTY has Southdowns phone # maybe they will send you some. Dont know if it will be cheaper after shipping. I have it locally for $3.86 a bag I dont know what it would cost for me to ship to you.

HMMM, never thought about contacting them directly. Mr. Salty, do you think you could E-mail me southtown's phone # ? My e-mail is KDLBEM@AOL.com. Thanks. If they won't send it maybe we could work something out, Jimi. I would definately compensate you for your time and trouble.

Thanks Jimi. I just posted a message for Mr. Salty. I'll see what southtown has to say if I can get the number. I have a feeling I'm gonna have to get it through you, but we will see. I'll let ya know how it goes. I went to LFS today, and he wants DOUBLE the price on everything I am going to buy for the tank(cleanup crew, LS, UV sterilizer). Hate to buy everything online, But jeez, Who really wants to spend money they don't have to. Especially since I get way more help here at SWF.com.
Thanks again,
B

my understanding is that SD sand is no linger being sold direct to the public, they have like a 10 ton minimum, accorging to the person I spoke with when I called the #mr. salty gave me. But your HD should be able to locate it by calling other stores in the NE. If they will not have it transferred in, then someone is not doing their job. I would talk with a store manager. The person who I got mine from said this is a regular thing for their stores to do. They may, however, charge you for the transportation, as the cost of freight outweighs the value of the sand.
When I did speak with the girl at Southdown, she told me this exact product is being marketed as "pure aragonite". they have a website. cant post the link, but i'm sure you can figure it out.

Also, what I did to my sand was I first filled a cooler about half way with water, then added the sand. Then I stired it up pretty good. Then I put a hose into the sand and lightly turned it on and let the milky white water over flow and would move the hose around to remove the filler silt. Then we let it soak for about 2-3 days stiring regularly. And then me and my dad made a little filter type thing out of a mesh screen. We would put a scoop of the sand on the screen and ran water over it, and tried to remove as much silt as possible. Then we put the good sand into a bucket and filled it with water and would pour out the water if it was white (and it usually was) then would fill it up, pour it out, and so on until it was pretty clear.

Southdown no longer sells the sand directly to the public...So even if I could find that number,,It's pretty much worthless..SORRY..
