Twice in the last week prior to the light going out at night I noticed a white cloud coming from my Scooter Blenny. Is the fish spawning?

My scooter does this too. I believe this actually is the sand they have munched to get at the critters in it. Could be wrong but the few times my scooter has done this close to the glass it has the appearence of ground up sand. HTH
BTW does your scooter have a film over him(her) in the morning? Mine starts the day with a film all over his body and is lighter in color. As the day progresses he gets darker and sheds the film after a few minutes.
He seems healthy and happy and if I knew how to tell a male from a female I would try to get mine a mate.

What my scooter does is filter the food and debris through his gills and releases the waste directly above his head. It looks like there is a cloud of debris above him. That is completely normal for a scooter.

My Scooter usally sleeps under the sand (eyes only sticking up) and has sand on his back for a few minutes in the morning. I never noticed a film but will check in the morning.

The Males can be identified by their large dorsal fin which they will display mainly when courting and in anticipation of battle. My fish is a male and displays quite often. I think he sees his reflection in the glass. I also read somewhere you can keep two males together (I have not tried yet).
