Spider Worm oh Spider Worm...OH!!

Their is this "worm" in my dads 75gal reef. It is about a 1" long in a hard tube that sends out "spider" webs and catches anything that gets near it. Ate a baby brittle star just early. Forgot to add; it also shots out long tenticals. Will try to get a good picture of it later.

from what i understand of them they are a filter feeder pretty harmless but can irritate corals.

Actually not a filter feeder. Their net picks up detritus. But you are right in that they can be an tactile irritant to some corals.

How does it irritate corals? Does it do that by 'throwing the net over them? Should it be removed or is it fine to stay there? Thanks.
