Spliting serpent star??

I found a single "tentacle" alive in my tank. There is none missing from my serpent star. Where did this come from? Also......I have a bazillion baby snails now.....any remedy to get rid of these? :help:

Why would you want to get rid of the snails? They will die off on their own as food runs out, otherwise I wouldn't worry unless, its unlikely but unless they were "bad" snails.
I would need to see a picture of the arm...have you added LR or anything recently? Anyway, they do not reproduce in this way so a single arm with no part of the disk will not regenerate (it will move for awhile) and can be removed. Are you sure it is an arm of a serpentstar?
