Has anyone ever heard of an anemone splitting and becoming 2 ? A friend of mine was lucky enough when he purchased his anemone at the lfs.He wanted to but 1, but there were 2 attached to the same rock. After numerous trys to get one to release itself from the rock, he ended up getting 2 for the price of 1.After having them in his tank for a month or so,they ended up releasing them selves from the rock. What he thought was 2, ended up being 3, with 1 staying on the original rock.He gave me that one which I put in my tank. After having it in my tank healthy for about 6 weeks,it started to stay deflated longer than normal, it started stretch itself outward over the rock that it was attached to, and a neighboring one.I thought that it was dying the way that it looked.Over the next few days though,it split apart into what is now 2 anemones. The original is still larger, but the new one, even though smaller,is still vary healthy.Has anyone ever heard of this or seen this?I would love to hear any input on this.

Green bta.Its has actually spilt into 3, my daughter just noticed it.This is actually pretty cool.If it keeps up, I could sell or trade them with the lfs or local reefers.

What type of lighting do you have? Although its not uncommon at all for a BTA to split.. (their way of reproducing) they do it for other reasons. And aside for just because it got too big and it was time to divide, the other reason is stress or poor conditions.. If an anenome is stressed and strong.. then it will split as many times as it can to ensure survival as it senses it may not like what is happening. Its cool to see if its just doing it "because" but just as a proactive heads up.. test your water peram's and make sure your lighting is up to par.. also is it eating?

I have VHO lighting, bulbs are about 4 months old.I did go past my last regular water change by a couple of weeks while on vacation, but my water levels didn't get out of hand.I have since did a change and everything is fine.Anemones are eating, silversides which I just have to cut smaller now.I'm just surprised that it spilt because it wasn't from being too large.I had a bta years ago in a previous tank that was much larger, and it never split, from size or bad water conditions. Thanks for the input.
