sponge help

my buddy has a blue sponge that is growing quick. he wants to give me a piece of it. we have read that all you do is break it off in 1 inch pieces for it to survive in a new tank.
can anyone help me out with this one.

Sorry man. Good luck. With just about everything, I'd use a razor and cut it clean - don't "break" it.

I have a orange tree sponge that I am going to frag and I was told to cut it clean with a razor and put the pieces in med to high flow. I haven't tried it yet but that was the info given to me.
