Does anyone know what kind of sponge this is growing underneath my Galexia coral? Is it harmful? Seems a bit aggressive as it's doubled its size in the last 6 months. It does however create a nice strong base for the coral... ha!
I have a simular black incrusting sponge that has covered most of a large rock and the skeleton of one of my largest branching hammers. It does not grow onto or seem to bother the flesh of the coral and the coral does not seem to mind. The sponge seems to thrive in the shade of the polyps. Its been like that for some time so I hope yours will not harm your corals. I dont know what to do to stop the sponge without removeing the whole rock and coral and still not sure if that would stop it.....
yea, mine doesn't bother the coral either but I just figured it was because the coral was stinging it away. I'd love to see a picture of yours if it's easy. I may trim it back so it doesn't get to out of control.
