Sponge question

LFS threw in a small frag of "blue" sponge last week. It seems to be doing ok - but it gets moved around alot by the snails, hermits, fish, etc - don't seem to be eating it - just bumping into it........ Can we use putty to attach it to a piece of live rocK? I know it cannot be removed from the water.......

Sponges in general do not need a lot of lighting, but do need good flow. Depending on the shape of the sponge, can you wedge it between some rockwork? Or yes you can glue the base to a piece of rock. I tend to want to wedge things before I permanently glue anything. Here is my yellow sponge, I have wedged it into the rocks for more stability. And my orange tree is glued to a rock. (Came this way) I have since traded the orange sponge, but you get the idea.
The worse thing for sponges is sand, and dietrus. Make sure the sponge has good flow to wash these things off of it, but not blasting it.
I have a diamond goby that constantly baths everything in sand, so when I do my water changes on Fridays I take a powerhead and blow off the corals or sponges with anything that has landed on them. This seems to work for me.

The blue ones are great tank indicators because their color is so sensitive to change, They eat like pigs and grow very quickly.
Try poking it down into the rockwork in an area it can get food and flow, but nothing can easily move or bother it. It should take off quick.
The more food the better as long as you do not compromise water quality.
