sponge question

I have sponges in my tank that started on their own. Most of them are a yellowish green and one is either a dark purple or black. Some are on the rocks but I also have some on the back glass of the tank. I am trying to sell my house and when I move I would like to remove them from the wall of the tank prior to dismantleing it. Has anyone ever done this without hurting the sponge and how did they go about it? Can the sponge be put back on the glass after the move or does it need to be placed on the rock? I have read that they cannot be taken out of the water and that they can give off toxins.

The toxins are when they die. If they hit air at all they die. it won't hurt them to be scraped off as long as they are not exposed to air. How to reattach them I don't know...If you like the ones on the rock, keep it under water 100%...what is on the glass maybe you have to let those go.

Thank you. I probably will only try and save one or two maybe of the yellowish green ones because the ones growing on the rocks are the same but I really want to try and save the one that is dark purple or black. Maybe he will reattach to a rock. I guess we will see. Thanks again.

there are a couple ways to reattach them. sewing needle and fine thread tying it to the rock until it attaches is the most successful I have found in letting sponges attach. the hardest part (and this is a super pain in the rump) is tying it snug enough to hold it against the rock without slicing through it with the thread.
if your wanting to attach it back to glass your in for a heck of a time what I wouold do is While the tank is empty and dry put a dab of silicone where you want the sponge and press a small piece of rubble into it so you can tie off the sponge at that location or just sew it straight to the dab of silicone. remember to keep the sponges under water at all times. some can survive air exposure but a lot cannot its not worth risking.
you can also try super glueing it to the glass but that has very low probability of sucess IMO
