Hey just got the tank setup and never saw anything related to saltwater in real life. Is this a type of sponge? Is it bad or good and will it die under NO lights?

ya it looks like a sponge to me... most sponges do not need light and actually will move toward the underside of a rock to get out of the light so lights dont really matter in their case.
