Sponges:
Pros - Filter feeder.
- looks cool.
- Wont sting or hurt corals or fish.
Cons - Well there just aren't any! Unless you hate the look...but how could that be?

I dont know why you would want to get rid of them but if you do take that rock out of your tank for a few min and put it back in the tank air will kill the sponges.

Not completely...it will have the potential for death if it is out for too long, but sponges are very hearty colonies and would need to be scrubed off the rock.
What colors are they?

The white ones may be q tip sponges if your tank is fairly new, these will decrease in # as your tank matures. When my tanks was new I had dozens of them growing in my skimmer.

I think I heard before that greenish sponges can be q tip sponges with algae growing on/in them. That seems pretty big for a q tip though.
