I just bought a spiny burr fish. He is a cute little fish. Follows you around the tank. Friendly little one.

cool! mines very friendly too...and hes already eating off the algae sheets. I just got him today.
I have looked all over the net and cannot find a burrfish or pufferfish that looks exactly like him? He has yellow spines and little black spots.
I will post a pic tomorrow. I read that burrfish were hard to keep???

Any chance you can toss a pic up, so I can ID? (even a terrible cell phone cam?)
Burrfish are hard to keep for a couple reasons I can think of. First, they almost always come in with intestinal parasites. I would recommend soaking their food in PraziPro, just as a safeguard for a couple weeks. Second, unfortunately, they are rather passive compared to their close relative, the Porcupine, they are easily bullied. They love to eat, but they can easily get pushed around in a tank with other aggressive fish.
Just by chance, does he look like number 1 or 2?

well he doesnt really look like either of them. he has alot more spines and theyre thinnner.
prazi pro kills internal parasites? can that spread to other fish?

I've always wanted one of these guys, except I don't like the fact that they spit water out of the tank. My wife would kill me if some of her furniture got ruined because a fish spit salt water on it.

Yea, I believe (Beth would know for sure), if left untreated, IP will eventually spread to the other fish. That was more or less a blanket statement towards Spiny Burrfish, most of which, come out of the Atlantic. Many, many Spiny's I've noticed, have horribly sunken stomachs. I wouldn't treat without knowing for sure, and the way to tell, unfortuntately, is to observe the fish's fecal matter. If he's poo is white and stringy, he's got IP. The treatment for IP, is indeed, soaking the fish's food in PraziPro and then serving.
However, it really sounds like you have another type of Burrfish though, so you're probably in the clear. Will definitely be interesting to see!

Do you know anything about them? are they hard to care for?(I know you're not supposed to ask this question AFTER you buy your fish)

The Birdled and the Spiny are pretty close in relation, so pretty much what I said holds true. They're puffers sure, but aren't really good in your aggressive tank, with triggers, etc. They seem to stress quite easy, and aren't real disease resistant.
That said, you're particular guy looks awfully skinny. Looking back at the pics I posted, you see how the bottom of the Burrfish are flat, and your's looks like an upside down bean? You really need to feed him quite well for the next couple of days. at 1.5", he should absolutely love mysis. Soak the mysis in Zoecon or Selcon (supplements) for an hour before feeding.
Also, definitely you need to check to see if he has intestial parasites.

should I soak the food in prazi pro or metronidazole(I have both) for internal parasites now or try and find out? I will watch the poop to see what it looks like.

He has been eating mysis, but is kinda slow and shy. I feed all the other fish and then put some by him and he grabs a couple before the "pack" gets his too.
I dont have triggers, just powder brown, hippo blue, and a bannerfish. the burrfish doesnt take crap from them though...he snaps back and is very alert(and cute)!

I'd want to see for sure before using the meds. You could probably try feeding clam on the half shell as well.

Yes, buy a fresh clam from your grocery store seafood dept, split it, rinse it, then put it in the tank. Puffers, triggers, wrasses, they love clams!
