LFS asured me that a Spottted sweetlip would be fine in a 30gal tank, he says he has had them live for years in a 20gal tank. I have been dooing alot of reseach on the net. Depending where I look I have seen a min tank size of 75 gal others say it should be fine. What is your opinion?

Definitely a gorgeous fish, but I wouldn't put it in that small of a tank.
My wife saw one at our LFS a couple weeks ago, when I researched it everything says it grows between 2' and 3'. Definitely not suited for a small tank. And yes, my wife was very disappointed to find this out

IMO, I am afraid most will not survive long enough to outgrow this size tank. They do not have a good long term survival record. If they do survive, they get large, and no where near as attractive.
I would seriously suggest you find a new LFS.

Hmmm, how long in captivity you be considered a good time? I've had mine for a year, not big, around 6-8inches, eats like a horse, and does not like shrimp per say ( he eats them). But he's a cool fishy. Not had any trouble with him in the infection department. But I don't know if your LFS told you that they can get up to 27".

If you get them going that long, it is usually a good sign. Few, however, make it that long in captivity. You are doing something right, and got a good specimen as well.
