Ok I just went to the Local fish store for my Birthday and I seen they had a Acropora in and I was like hmm thats weird because they told me that they didn't know anything about SPS corals there and they ussually only sold fish some LPS and softies. So I ask her about it and she said when it came in it was white but then after a little while it turned brownish around the polyps. I said oh. She said ya to bad I guess its dead since it turned brown. I said well how much would u sell it to me for then since its dead she said you can have it for 5 dollars it you want. It wasn't a frag its a large piece (in my opinion could be wrong). So is it possible I just got a large piece of Acro for 5 bucks??? Wow that would truly make my day. I think she sold me 4 Yuma Polyps also for 20 bux
Here are some pictures of the Acro still in bag as soon as I acclimate I will get some much better pictures but what do you think? Dead or Alive?

I think that it turning from white to brown may be a good thing. Either way you got a good deal. Good luck with it.

Maybe. Or maybe it RTN'd then it was overtaken by algae.
Was there any polyp extension - that's the key.

I have 20k MH XM lighting on my tank. She didn't know what polyp extension was so she couldn't tell me if it had ever done that or not. To me when I looked at it the tips of the coral looked like they had small growth and it was a greenish color so maybe I will get VERY lucky. :joy:

It was under very high PC lighting at the fish store since I am running MH should I put it in the bottom of the tank or put in toward a lower lighted very high flow area?

I don't think it looks like algae from the pic. RTN would kill it quickly, and leave it white. Yes it could have been covered with algae, but I don't think it would be mistaken for being alive at that point.
BTW Happy Birthday!!!

Although, I wouldn't expect an LFS worker to mistake it for dead.:notsure:

I am not getting to excited but since the Coral has been in the bag acclimating a couple polyps are VERY bright red but it could be something else on it but I didn't see it on there before. Keeping my fingers crossed. :jumping:

SPS's will turn brown from poor lighting such as PC's or low Alk. If you see extended polyps then its alive.
