Sps Frag Growth

If I recently got a frag that was not growing at the lfs is there anything I can do to get it to start growing?...or do I just need to give it time. My calcium is at 430 and dkh is at 9.6...and stays around there pretty steadily. I have plenty of light, so thats not an issue. Is it just a matter of time or what? Also, what's the biological means behind no growth...I would guess concerving nutrients, but anyone want to shed some light on this.

Do you know what kind of coral it is? Acro, Monti? What kind of shape was it in when you got it? Are you getting any polyp extension? Thanks

Its an acropora...not sure whether its abrolhensis or a closely related species. It does have fairly good polyp extension. I believe its still acclimating to my tank from the fish store. The lfs I go to has a dkh of 16+ in their reef tanks. I think it just puts stress on the corals and they take a while to acclimate to my take. I did about an hour acclimation on the coral because of this reason.

Just give it good indirect flow and keep yor CA & ALK where you have it and it should kick in. I can't recall but I think you have halides so you should be set

Is it encrusting the base yet? They encrust the base before they begin to grow, so that will be a good indicator.

I do have a 250watt de 20k mh over my 20. It hasn't started encrusting yet but I've only had the frag for a week and half now. I'll just wait it out...such is everything in this hobby:yes:
