sps growth

i broke off the sps from the base about late dec. (it was pretty much attached to a hockey puck) the part i broke off is just starting turn a green color on the tips about mid level in the tank. the "hockey puck" had a bit of the coral still attached so i burried it in the sand with the coral and the white skeleton exposed. the skeleton quickly healed over and is really starting to grow up fast in a blue color but the growth of the bigger peice that is higher (more light) and probibly better flow isnt growing nearly as fast and its growth is a different color. what gives?

Did you lay the bigger piece sideways to attach or did you attach it using only the broken base?

Many SPS will not grow outward until they have grown a stable base. Setting it up with just a tiny connection to the rock will delay noticeable coral growth significantly. Laying it sideways to maximize contact with the rock will allow it to quickly set up a stable base so it will begin outward growth a lot faster.
My suggestion would be to snap it off where you have it now and superglue it to the rock with it laying down with as much contact to the rock as possible.

If you can take the rock out that is the best way. Pat each side with a white paper towel to dry a bit and then dab glue on the coral and hold to the rock for 30 seconds. One spot of glue usually works but it you need two spots to hold it secure that's fine.
If you can't take to rock out it can still work. Dab a glob of glue on the coral, dip the coral in the water real quick to form a crust on the glue, dab a little more glue over the crust, place the coral on the rock and press hard enough to break the crust on the glue. Hold for 30 seconds.

If it is easy to take the rock and coral out it is easier to super glue in that manner. However it can be done in tank. Take the coral and apply a fairly liberal amount to the part that you want to attach. As you put the coral in the tank the glue will form a skin over it. When you get to the place where you want to permanently place it put it against the spot and twist the coral back and forth a couple of times then hold it in place for a minute or so. The twisting will break the skin and get to the gel, than holding it in place will let the gel set enough for you to let go and finish setting.

Is there an echo in here?

I was writing at the same time as Guy it appears. Good to know there is some consistency in answers sometimes.
