hey guys,
i have 5 small frags of sps. i have them in my 29 biocube with a 175watt 20k bulb. so far 3 of my sps are doing good. but 2 of them bleach! my birds nest died on me! it bleach! and i had a red montipora cap that is starting to turn pink and has some white spots! i have a maxi-jet 1200 as my return and a Koralia 1 hitting the sps for perfect flow. my readings are as follows:
Alk- 11dkh 196.9 kh
Calcium- 470ppm
Trates- 0ppm
Ph- between 7.8-8.0 (i know Ph is low)
Trites- 0ppm
ammonia- 0ppm
Temp is at 78 to 80 degress.
all the sps are on the top of the tank. near the light.
heres a small pic
(these i had them for a while and they are good)
but acro has a small piece thats bleached! hopefully it recovers buts it opens up beautiful

bleach monti (just got it recently and look what happend!
)

Please guys help!
What is causing my sps to bleach?

Did you acclimate them to the light? They may be light shocked that close to a 175w bulb. Also, have you tested for phosphates? They can cause sps to bleach. Finally, your flow might still be a little low for sps. I don't think that flow is what is causing them to bleach, but if you want to keep sps you are probably going to want to bump it up a little.

how ima buy another K1 tomorrow. the maxi jet 900 that you seem in the pic is off. so ima turn it on to get more flow. also i havent tested for phosphates which i will do soon. and yea i did acclimate them for 30 mins in the tank.

Phosphates will kill sps corals...
Best to have zero phosphates.
Also, I personally think that a koralia 1 and a maxijet 1200 isn't enough flow in a 29g tank for sps corals.

i also have another pump a maxijet 900. its off now. should i turn it on as well till i get another Koralia 1?

yes. that would help. If you have any phosphate removal media, I suggest you use it. The colors on your existing corals will pop out at yah.

i just tested for phosphate and i have between 0.0ppm and 0.5ppm.
is that bad?
most test are useless. some would say even more accurate test are useless but you need to test in a resolution from 0.02 to 0.06ppm anything over 0.03 is considered more than optimal.
I think you just shocked them with light. should start them on the bottom and move them up.

so should i move all my sps to the bottom or half way and slowly move them to the top? every week?

a few suggestions.
a) start them lower
b) higher resolution phosphate kit or meter
c) lower the alk to 8-9dKH (dont ask me why sps just like it better)
d) indirect flow. dont point the PH directly at them if they are close)
e) until its figured out one at a time and cheap
f) might not be anything wrong on your end. could just be the source, acclimation shock, just bad luck this go round ect.

Thanks for the INFO!

got them. ima place them all in my little frag rack you see in my tank. the black one in the fts. ima have them there and every week move them up little by little. can that help my acro heal back to?

well i moved the acro to the bottom and the other on as well. every week i will raise it up lil by lil. hopefully that will recover it. how does that sound?

Lots of good advice so far. The only thing I will add is dipping to see if you have any pests. I know AEFW will bleach a coral and make it die from the bottom up.

my only advice is bring your alk down like stated before because 11 is kinda high and also maybe try testing for magnesium, but im assuming your mg levels are ok if you have that high of ca and alk.
definitely try light acclimating them also
