sps in a nano

Ok, I know this sounds really novice, but I got a new 8 gallon nano tank and I was wondering if I could put a monti cap in it. I have a 24-watt compact flourescent light, and have heard mixed replies from other places. Any help??

i think you ask this already not sure. but you will not be happy with the results, it will either bleach, turn brown, or not grow at all. if you want to do sps buy a MH pendant of 70watts

I know I haven't asked this before, I just started an account today, but thanks for the advice, I don't want to kill anything.

I actually just asked that same question :)
Monti don't have the heavy requirements of lighting that other SPS tend to have, but I guess that the cap will likely lose it's color and turn brown under these lights (or worse).

I have monti under 80 watts pc in a 10 gallon and I am able to keep them successfully at any depth in the aquarium.

I did a DIY MH build that cost me less than $50 plus a bulb (if you order Chinese bulbs off that bay store, make sure you order 20K because the 14K bulb is a 10K visually...but cant complain for less than $5 shipped)

80 watts pc? how many bulbs you got over that 10 gallon? wow..
How long has the monti survived and has it stayed its original color or is it brown?

Here is my pink and green monti, and I believe confusa. Sorry the pictures aren't real clear. I need a macro lens and more experience behind my new camera. I can't capture the actual beauty or fluoresce that they have in person either. I need to spend more time learning how to use the camera.

They look really nice. How long have you had them and have you seen a lot of growth?

About two months and yes they have grown well. Took them a while to recover from stress from a shipping error. The person I got them from shipped 2 day instead of overnight and the heat pack didn't last long enough.
