Thanks Matt and Freddy!
yeah the Xenia is out of control. I really enjoy it and more people comment on that or my frogspawn in person than they do my SPS :(
But I trimmed the Xenia last night so it looks cleaner and it wont shade any of the sps. Maybe Ill get some new pics this weekend. But I can get great store credit trading in xenia frags periodically, so thats a good thing.
Not sure where you are located, but I get all my sps from a local store here in west palm beach called Oceans Below. Their fish are always healthy and sps selection is amazing.
For cheap options, look for frag swaps in your local area and see if there is a local aquarium club you can join. At the frag swaps you can usually buy frags for real cheap without needing to have any frags of your own to trade.
a good ways to control xenia is to put it on top. xenia grows upwards so if you put it as hgh as it can get, it will spread slower.

You have done a lot with the tank. I really like it. I love the superman monti. That is one coral that I am going to have to get one day.
Thanks cmax! The blue color doesnt really show on the side that doesnt face the light, but the frag is a strange shape and so the side that gets the light you cant see easily. But it is spreading quickly and the blue side will be more noticeable.

Yeah, its one of those "hindsight 20/20" things because I would have tried to control it much more if I would have known what a PITA it can be.

Nice pictures gator.
But in post #4 the last picture, you called it an encrusting monti, are you sure that is not a pavona? Looks like one to me, not that that is a bad thing, just wondering.

Thanks!
I dont believe its a pavona. Im not too familiar with pavona corals, but the pics I looked at online have different polyps.
This one has the typical monti looking polyps. Also, it has started to encrust down the sides of the frag and onto the LR. But I could always be wrong ...

Heres a new acquisition... free from LFS after trading in xenia for $75 in store credit.

I believe its Acropora Caroliniana, a deepwater acro.
The pictures dont do it justice, its a flourescent green/yellow with white polyps, but not much PE (typical of deepwater acros)

Very nice, I like the new piece. Have to love store credit when it means that you don't have to pay for your new addition.

Thanks, I hope its not too slow of a grower.
The store credit is the one things that made up for the hassle of having xenia ALLLL over my tank. Now I even just flush pieces that I pull out with large tweezers.

Nice deepwater. I couldnt tell the difference between them, the only pictures Ive seen of deepwaters have all been frags. Loving the tank though
