Do u think he would be alright under 4 96 watt pc's? i seen a derasa under the same light that grew huge. if he'll be alright ill take him in a HEARTBEAT! im on the south side, maybe u can bring it to the swap we were planning in the first south side swap thread. but yes, i will definitly take him off your hands.
Is that one under pretty strong metal halides? so far everything ive read says squamosa is the hardiest of the clams and lives down to 60 feet deep so its more light tolerant than the croceas and maximas of very shallow intensly bright water.
all of the LPS in my tank that is supposed to have pretty bright light is growing great and someone i know with the same light has some nice SPS in his tank too.
i might put HQi on a 125 im setting up but even if any of you have seen GARF's website they have awesome tanks with the most modest lighting- even just NO's
Why would you buy something just to "keep it alive" dont you want it to grow and keep its color? I can tell you right now that if you do get it, yes, it might live for a short period of time but it will turn to an ugly brown color.
i didnt say i was just going to try and "keep it alive" but from what ive read and what ive seen in other people's tanks, squamosa does very well and grows with this type of lighting. i have 400 watts over the tank so how wouldnt that be bright enough? in some places that are in direct light the coraline doesnt even seem to grow prefering the shade. one person's tank i saw was a 90 and had one of these on the sand which he bought very small and five years later this thing was bigger than a football!
granted, the colors were a little less crazy than the one in your picture but it was still a VERY good lookin clam with alot of color so some color loss wouldnt bother me
