Stand on wheels?

Has anyone here ever attempted to put casters/wheels on an aquarium stand? The reason I'm asking is that I saw a recent site selling a both 25 and 55 gallon tanks to schools. The stands for both had casters on them! The negatives I've seen so far deal mainly with sloshing. If a large portion of water (say 30%) was removed 1st, and the weight was distributed evenly over more than just the 4 corners, do you think it would be do-able?
Thanks for your comments!

I do not know if it would be doable or not, but I do know that I would not want to be the one to try it first.

sure it is doable. but the wheels would have to be very very strong. Water is 8+#/gallon. And there had better be some way of locking the wheels after the system has been moved.
then comes the basic question why? I guess for schools they may want to move them around. But as you said water would have to be emptied out anyway. Just don't see a reason for doing this.

Funny. I actually did this on my 90. I wish I hadn't simply because I had to worry about it for the first while. The casters are mounted to 1.5" of plywood that are mounted to the bottom of the aquarium stand. The casters are rated for 450# each... I also have placed blocks and shims all around to support it in addition to the casters. It is extremely stable and sturdy. I wouldn't do it again though. And once I move next year, I'm taking them off. It's just too impracticle to take them off at this point however.

the worst part is that all the weight is distributed at only four points.
A good stand has the sides extend all the way to the floor. That way the weight is distributed over a much bigger surface
You see only a few commercial stands that actually have legs and these are for small tanks
Although I seem to remember seeing a metal stand for a 55 with legs - not too good of an idea IMO

HD has the sliders you buy for furniture. They make them in all different sizes. I thought about doing this. They are about a 1/2" tall. You could 8 or 10 under the stand. It would only work on a hard surface, no carpet.
