Standpipe Overflow Issues

Hello all,
I have been up and running my 95g reef tank for almost 5 months now and all is well except for the built in overflow noise
I went with an Eheim 1262 pump and made the Durso standpipe. Until now I have only had to deal with the waterfall noise into the overflow but with no gurgling.
Now, all of a sudden the gurgling sound is way too load and adjusting the air into it just raises the water level in the chamber.
There are two things I am considering changing.
Currently the setup is 1 1/4" drain and 1" return plumbing.
Should I go 1" drain and 3/4" return?
And as for the standpipe, should I go Stockman or Hofer Gurgle Buster.
On the HGB construction page, it says use 5" length pipe. Is this right? My Chamber is 24" in height. Does the HGB work by being totally submersed in water with airline tubing out of the water?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Do you want to look at fixing what you already have or do you want to ditch it and start with something else. Your "Durso" isn't suppose to do that, so there must be a problem, if you want to go the fixing route... 'cause the first thing I would do is drill another hole in the cap.

Thanks for the help carnberry,
I redid the plumbing and used the Stockamn design. Overall, I like it better than ther Durso setup.

I also found that shoving a little filter media in the pipe will significantly quiet the noise.
