Star fish had a baby

A friend of mine took my starfish when my hairy red hermit attaked it. It has been about four months. He added some fish to him tank and we noticed a little (about 1/4 inch) three legs star.
I have never had a starfish other then this one could anyone give me some informantion regarding this baby star I would love it.

Welcome to the board! Did your starfish lose a leg and it regenerate into a whole new star?

my old an much larger star it still in good shape there is a second star in the tank

Is it the same species of starfish? It could have had a baby but also the new one might have came in with a load of Live rock and its just now being seen.

It more than likely came from your lr. I have 3 little baby star fish that popped out of my lr about 3 months ago.
