hi,
sorry to have so many threads goin right now my stars leg is litterally falling appart???
i feed him mysis shrimp algea brine hes red withwhite and red spikes i have a chocolate chip with him their in a 12 gal with only lr i feed him every other day and ill go test my water..........

my other star seems fine more info i run carbon i have tap water hermitts are all alive?? ammonia is about .25-.50 dont get me wrong i love this star but idk what to do because does it release sumthin in the water cause i really want to to save (chipper lol)

please help me idk what to do this is my plan get rid of spikes the dying one and bring bacck chippers to the lfs my tank is like solid green its horrible isk what happend?????? after taking him back drain start up a cycle?????

I honestly don't know.. and your sentences are all run together where they don't make sense to me. All I know though from reading the posts is the ammonia reading is a very bad sign.

I can't help without more information. specific parameters, types of star, how long you've had it...and in sentences that don't run together :(

i use tap water.
i use carbon.
i dont know the exact spec its red and white and has red spikes?
test results ntrite nitrate 0 ammonia .25-.50
the tank is coverd in algea completely?
i cannot get a pic right now no camera.
is their anything else????

Specific gravity, pH, alkalinity, calcium
If your tank is covered in algae, you have a big problem with water quality.
How long have you had it.

025 -.50 isn't high ammonia..I agree the tap water is causing an algae bloom. It also sounds to me like you are overfeeding.
