Star polyp

Has anyone had any trouble with star polyp in their reef with tangs or any other fish? In my reef the new peice of star coral will not come out any more. It did great for a week then retracted. All water parameters are normal as well as all other corals showing no signs of stress. I run four six foot URI VHO's two actinics and two whites, the two actinics run about elevn hours and the two whites run about eight hours. A month ago I shut the two ten K metal halides off for awhile cuz I have mostly soft coral and it all seems to grow faster without them on. I'm wondering if the tangs are picking on the star coral? I havent seen anything but who knows

I've got the SAME problem. We got our Star Polyp's a month ago, put them in the tank and they came out great for 4 or so days. Haven't been out since. Water parameters are perfect.
Salinity......1.024
KH.........10
Temp 80*
Calcium.....440
No nitrates, ect
Frogspawn, Torch, Zoo's, ect are doing great. I've racked my brain trying to figure this out. I'm running (2) 250 MH's 20k on a 60 gallon tank........

I did direct a little more water flow in the direction of the star polyp like jjlittle suggested, but who knows. With good water parameters like SBV has its hard to say what the prob could be. The folks I know that do well with star polyp in a lot of light or very little. Thats what makes me wonder if some thing in the tank isn't irritating it.

57- I'm gonna start to dose with photo-plex and see what happens. Also picked up some Marine snow at my LFS today. Gonna see what happens with that. Its the only thing I can figure is their not getting enough food in my tank since they are "filter feeders". These simple corals have been puzzling to me, but, I like a challenge. I'm gonna try one of these and see what I can come up with. I'll pm you if I can figure anything out.....

I am not a big fan of dosing with odd chems... A good water change, iodine, and strong filtration does the trick for me. I just cut one of my star colonies into ten pieces and it took about two weeks for them to open back up. I would recommend waiting out the storm. Be sure to ro water. Saves on testing for minerals like iron etc. Also, is the base of the colony a dark purple? if not you might have trouble. I have one cutting that is a lighter pink and is slowly turning back to the dark purple.

Mine closed last week, so i moved them to a higher flow area, the ones closest to the flow stayed closed and the ones fartheat away opened in just afew hrs. Ended up moving them back to original spot and the all opened again (go figure)

My base is dark purple. Mine have been in the same spot for 10 days. Medium/high flow, pleanty of light with a rotating powerhead sweeping accross them. I'm running (2) 1200 maxi-jets and (1) 600 in my 60 gallon. Funny though, everything else is thriving. It might be a South Carolina thing......lol

And I'm running a 75 gallon Pro-Clear wet/dry with skimmer on my system. I have the right equipment, just no luck with Star polyp's! GGGrrrr!
