starefish has hole in it?

Ok, I purchased a red starefish from the lfs the other day. He acclimated fine and seems to be doing great. Except for today when i noticed a wound on his body. Right in the middle of him. But the wierd thing is that it is on his lower half too. Kind of like he got shot with a bullet. same wound on top and bottom of him right in the middle of him. He's still alive. Does anyone know what this could be. I would post pics but cant find charger for camera. It looks like he blew up from the middle out. But he's still alive.

the same thing happend to my red serpent.. Nobody was really able to answer my question either.. mine only had the hole on the top of his body though.. then a few days later one of his legs fell off, then he died.

This is acclimation shock.
What are your water parameters? I realize the thread is old...but it is important to know. Seastars are some of the most delicate animals we keep and many are not suitable for our tanks.
