Bummer,
Some stars are tough to keep and they're all very sensitive to changes in water chemistry.
Do a search here for starfish & you'll find a lot of info on things you'll need to know. In particular, species to avoid, husbandry needs, aclimation, compatibility, etc.

Speaking of starfish, I came home from work yesterday and there was a round, white circle on the side of my tank. Upon closer inspection, it was a starfish about the size of my pinky nail. He disappeared about an hour later and I haven't seen him since. The kids and hubby didn't believe me---good thing I took a picture!

You're right, osufarker, it is asternia. I did a search and the pictures look exactly like what's in my tank. Apparently they eat corals?
I'd love to post a picture, but everytime I try, it just says my picture is too large. I tried to resize, but it didn't work. Oh, well. I give up!

My tank is full of those little star fish they don't seem to hurt anything, and I think they're cute.

Very very rarely do you get some that are coral eaters...if on the glass, they are fine.
aannddyy,
Can you describe the seastar, how long you acclimated it, and specifics on your tank (age, water parameters especially specific gravity and pH?).
