Starfish has a wierd problem

My red starfish has begun crawling around the tank and as he is crawling across my live rock he seems to be leaving bits of himself in long strands on the rock. It looks like pieces of his red skin and clear pieces of his inside. Is he dying? What is going on? I am pretty worried.
PLEASE HELP

Sorry to say, your star needed to be aclimated for way longer than that, with it behavior, I bet it will be dead in a day or two.

Well I have prepared myself for the possible death of my starfish but I do believe in learning from my mistakes so what would be the correct acclimation procedure for a starfish??????????

Stars need to be drip acclimated over a period of at least 2 hours. HTH

Utilizing my special acclimmation techniques, it was over an hour. Gramps was there for proof.

some people drip acclimate over as many as 8 hours. Stars (particularly blue Linka it seems) are very sensitive to salinity change.

I've never used an acclimation of under 2 hrs even for a guppy. Acclimation is simple and important but too often shorcuted. If You want it to live, take Your time. The world will not end if Your new prize is not free swiming for a few hours.

sorry to here your star died i suggest you could also try a chocolate chip star that is small it might be easier
