Starfish or What?

I just got a new Blue hippo tang and when I put her in the tank I saw something fall out into the water from the bag. It was very very small and almost translucent, a little larger that a pencil eraser. I can't get a picture of it because it moved and I can't find it now. It had 5 legs like a starfish and they were moving so I know it was alive. But like I said, it was translucent and looked like a starfish. COuld this be a baby starfish that I just got for free or something bad I just introduced into my tank? Sorry for no picture but I can't find it now.

Could be a baby brittle star . Its best not to add the water from the lfs

My guess is that it is not a starfish because you say it was translucent…
Well I say translucent, it was a whiteish color. Are they bad if it is a baby brittle starfish? How big do they get? I usually try to add as little water from LFS as possible. Thanks

This makes me change my mind to starfish. Long thin arms or short stubby?

sounds to me like a baby bittle star or serpent star, should be relitively harmless if that is the case they tend to be good scavengers

You probably won't see him for quite some time. They can get into the tiniest of crevices in your LR and they usually stay there. The only thing I really see of mine are the arms that stick out of the rocks when I feed the tank. They reproduce pretty readily in the tank by splitting so you'll probably see more over time. They're pretty hearty little guys.
