Starting 12g cube as second tank.

Hi all, I got into swf in december with a 55gallon fowlr and now I setting up a 12 gallon cube in my room. I bought 10 lbs of aragonite sand (not live) and about 10 lbs. of base rock and will add a few pieces of live rock.
My question is should I take some water and sand from my 55gallon tank to get things going, if so how much? Any other tips to get the tank maturing with the help of my larger tank?
