I just wanted to know if the lights that I am getting with my tank is good enough for a reef or should I install a 175w metal halide above the tank. It comes with a t5 lighting system I think it is 32w total power, let me know what you all think if that is enough or is the metal halide too much light.

well it depends on what type of corals you want. 32w for a 12 is really good. thats 3.66watts per gallon. mh are really for monti, birds nest, etc...(i dont know all the names). so i think that light is really good

I would like to keep monti and whatever else, I just want a light that I don't have to upgrade to. So 175w is not too much light for that size nano? Thanks for answering my question.

well you could always have to much light bleach the corals but if you can keep them raised above the tank it should be fine. how deep is your tank?

well what you can do is buy mh and put a 75watt mh with a 20k bulb (look hot) or a 150watt mh also with a 20k bulb. i love those bulbs cause they maek your tank blue color lol.
or stay with the stock lights and keep a monti really high up. i dont think it will keep its color or grow fast. but i think a 75w is good

I have a 175w 20k and a 14k and I could build something to have it sit up high enough from the water, so how high should it be from the water? Thanks again

i would think like 6 inches off the top would be good. you can keep just about any thing with that many watts in that small of a tank

i believe 175 is to much. 75w is good and 150 is enough. try to see if you can trade it or something. and you have have it like 4inches high
