Starting a new 55g tank....couple questions

Hey guys, just a couple of stupid questions for youz. I am starting up a new 55g tank that I want to turn into a fish only tank. Here are my stupid questions. If I leave out the sandbed and use artificial rocks and artifacts, will I still have problems controlling algae? Will i have more problems or less problems controlling the algae if it is a factor? The filtration on the 55g tank is only going to consist of a bak-pak2 protein skimmer, 2 powerheads with filter attachments, and 1 more powerhead for current. What do you think?

Algea will grow more on rocks and decorations than on a sandbed with shifters. If your water is getting turned at least 6+ times then your airation should be good.

Not really sure where the biological filtration will come from since I didn't want to use any live rock or live sand. What are my options for biological filtration without those items? These are just ideas I'm throwing around. Like usual I will probably place a sandbed down with a little live rock. I just wanted to see what my alternatives were.

Why dont you want live rock? A wet/dry filter with bio-balls will provide you with biological filtration.

i agree with sammy...and i would suggest the DSB and at least some lr for hiding places if nothing else...
strickly speaking about filtration though you could just use the DSB (5"+) but as sammy said your fish could get stressed...
HTH,
