someone told me that saltwater is easier than fresh water. True?

i wouldnt say it's harder or easier. i would say it's just a little more complex. if your willing to put the time, money , and effort to it then try it. but just remember the bigger the better.

would you say that it is something that should be taken on by a novice or should i attempt to master the freshwater tank first? i have abrand new 46 gallon bow front tank that I just got as a present. I would have to get a whole lot of new stuff (expensive). I just got this tank and equipment at Christmas. I am not really sure about throwing that all out and buying alot of new stuff, for a much more expensive step in this hobby without knowing if I am any good at it. I didn't have much luck with ciclids, so now I have semi-agressive community fish. I am undecided at best!! Thanks for your time.

i might be a little worried if you had difficulty with cichlids since they're pretty hardy fish. i too am thinking about going into the world of salt water. have kept cichlids for over a year now. they're fun and colorful for fresh water, but whenever i go into the lfs, my eyes are immediately swayed to the salt tanks. the cichlids can't compare the vibrant colors of the salt fish. from what i read, salt can be a whole lot more costly for skimmers, lighting, and of course fish. but if you like tinkering with stuff like me, salt seems like a worthwhile venture. good luck to both of us
