starting a reef??

hello everyone,
i am new to the board and the keeping of saltwater fish. i have keep freshwater for about a decade now but really want to get into saltwater. i do not have the first clue about what i need for a tropical reef tank so if you guys could give me all your wisdom on all the equipment i will need including the best equipment and the best for the price equipment? also any general advice would be greatly appreciated. i am planning on using a 40 gallon tank to start with. thanks

...your question is very difficult to answer all in one post...but you have come to the right place to get assistance and advice. For starters I'd urge you to pick up a good book on the subject....I like "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Fenner.
