starting back with questions

Hi everyone,
After a long year and a half, I am starting my 55 back up and am trying to get my head back into it. Any help would be beneficial. I also have a 100gal that I never started up and thought I would throw the 55 into operation as I have everything I need to start.
Yesterday, I set the tank up. I rinsed it with water, added 10gal of water prepped by the local saltwater store, added about 30-35gal of fresh water with Oceanic salt mix. I also added 2 lg bags of live sand, think they were 20lb bags.
I plan to get another bag of sand and 3 or 4 nice pieces of live rock to start. The live rock they have appears to be cured, I don't have much trust for this store, so lets say its not to be safe. I am going to add these today.
I already have my protein skimmer running and an external Emperor 400. I also have a wave machine and proper lighting, just not hooked up yet.
Currently, I am adding salt mix until I like the reading. I have not taken any other readings because I feel like the rock is going to alter everything anyway.
Rather than put blue damsels in, I was going to put in green chromis. For the same price (3 for $15) I felt the chromis would be better tank companions if they live.
Questions: How long of a wait from putting live rock in until putting chromis in?

I would only say to put the damsels or the chromis in AFTER the tank cycles. No need to use fish to cycle the tank. Just use cocktail shrimp. That way you don't harm any fish, and don't end up with fish that you dont want in their permanantly.

skyjenn, Welcome to the board.:cheer: We are so glad you are here.
You are from one of my favorite areas. We have family in Jacksonville, and of course, the Braves are just minutes away in GA.
I know they are in a slump right now, but let's don't kick em when they're down.
Yes, a difinite thumbs up on live fish after cycle. Ditto on the cocktail shrimp. Your purchase of live rock will be a good bacterial filter and excellant jump start for your tank.

It has been suggested to not use a skimmer at this point to allow bacteria to flourish during the cycle.
