Ive lost all my fish to what we are sure was ICH. Whats the procedure I should do with the tank before I restock. Its a 55g with LR and lots of inverts. I"m going to try to find 2 fish im sure are DOA in the tank, that we couldnt catch. The last fish was added in Oct. and was in a QT tank for 2 weeks does It take that long for ICH to take over.

Leave your tank empty (no fish) for a few weeks. The reason for this is because you are disrupting the ich's lifecycle, if it has no host it cant survive. I am not 100% sure on the exact time frame, I believe it is three to four weeks.

For some reason, I think you are suppossed to leave it empty (no fish) for at least 6 weeks, that way you can be sure that there is no ich in there....

When you quarantine your new fish, keep them in for a minimum of three weeks. Leave your display fishless for six weeks.

I found one of my clown fish alive today( the first fish i bought 16 mo ago) I went out and got a 10g QT tank. The sick fish is in a 5g pail the QT is filled and waiting to test the salinty. How long should I wait till i put the fish in the QT?.

That is great that he is alive! If you have filled the qt with display water then go ahead and put him in. He is better in the tank than in the bucket. How does he look?

Hm, how long did you have this guy? It could just be extra mucas from the stress. Is there any way to post a picture of him? Did you have another clown that you bought more recently?

The correct procedure is to leave your display tank without any fish for 1 month.
All new fish should be QTed for at least 3 wks, a full month if you feel uncertain about your ability to detect fish diseases.
Take a look at the FAQ Thread for info on QTing and treating ich.

I have had this clown sinse nov 06 Bought 2 lost the other one yesterday. Stringy stuff came off after i put it in the QT. I"m surprized I got Ich The last fish I got was in Nov 07 and I just found that one alive also its a yellow goby looks and acts fine so far.

It is a yellow goby or a clown fish? I am glad that the stringy stuff came off of him. You will have to start counting the fallow time from now though.

The goby has to come out as well. The display will have to have no fish at all for the parasites to die off. Being that the 10 gallon did not cycle, test it often. Do the water changes as needed to keep the ammonia and nitrite as close to zero as possible. How are you going to treat these two? I recommend hyposalinity.

Does a QT Need to cycle before I add a fish to it? Theres nothing in it but water and a filter and heater.
