Sterilizer assumption?

I had assumed that a UV sterilizer was a luxury for all tanks, both reef and all fish. Now that I bought it and it is sitting on the tank waiting to be turned on, I,ve found out that it is not good for reef tanks. Is this true? I wanted it to kill diseases not destroy my tank. Please help.

There are lots of people that use uv steralizers on reef tanks...however I am not one of them so I'm not able to advise you to use it. I have seen statements for and against them....the only thing I can say either way is this:
Look at my pics...all the coral is in a 55 gal reef just over a year old and there has never been a uv system on it!!Pod population is strong enough to keep 'JIMI" my psycadelic manderian alive and well!!!
