I did say "tanks under 100gals" tanks with larger systems can support a sand sifting stars...also tanks with deep sand beds.
By the time the star gets around, the stuff he ate has regrown..

What do you think they "SIFT" not for the fun of it...and the things they eat...are beneficial... so how can you say "they do not destory any good stuff"?
The correct statement, is "they do not destroy enough good stuff to cause a problem" in a BIG tank...
Make no mistake, they do destroy benfeical creatures in your sand bed..Along with the goby and horse shoe crabs.
