stock for a 10g

hello
I have had a ten gallon tank for over a year and a half, but didnt know what i was doing for half the time so it has really only been a healthy system for about nine months. I want to take the tank to college with me this fall. I need some ideas for good hearty, interesting fish to stock it with. All that is in it now is a clean up crew of hermits and a turbo and three small tri-color anemomies. All levels are perfect, i have tons of copapods and other variouse organisums growing on the live rock. i have ten pounds live sand and eight pounds live rock, i will be adding a few more pounds of rock soon. Filtration is a marine land bio wheel filter, with a Phos-x filter pack....and i think that is about all the important info anyone may need to help me out.
Thanks for any input :happyfish

three small tri-color anemomies
do you have a pic or a link to this .. i've never heard of them
as for stocking it with fish... picking 2 small fish to keep your system stable is best
i'd go for a small goby and maybe a clown (everyone loves a nemo
-)
or a firefish .. i think they are okay for a 10

could a pair of clown work?
i tried but failed at getting a pic of the anenomies in here, i will havea friend help me tomarrow.

well i have decided to wait on fish for a few weeks. in the mean time i am going to give hte tank some color, i just got some yellow and green xenia and an awsome chunck of live rock with some small mushrooms, featherdusters and some other purple soft coral, i think it is an an anthellia.
my plan...
get some inverts... maybe a shrimp, a urchin, a star?
next week get some orange zoos
a week later get some mushrooms
see how it looks and either get more corals or let them gorw out
decide on a fish
i am thinking a jawfish or a citron clow goby with a perc clown right now, but that may change.
anyone see any potential problems with my plan?
thanks for input... i am taking pics of hte progress, as soon as i figure out how i will post them.

The xenia and coral will probably not make it under that lighting. I don't know specifically what coral you bought but xenia need strong lighting. If you aren't able to upgrade your lighting I'd say you are pretty limited to keeping just fish/inverts and maybe some mushrooms.

I've gotta stop trusting all the pet store owners!

I asked the pet store owner if there where any low light corals i could get, I told him what I had for light...he showed me mushrooms, zoos, and the xenia I got...the yellow and purple ones look great open and evrything..but my green xenia is barly opening.
I am going to call and see if I can bring them back, maybe i will be able to trade for some mushrooms.
How much are some of the good lighting systems? This weekend is my grad party,
and those always bring in some good cash...and i have picked up alot more hours since school got out....maybe I can aford it. i would like to keep it in hte $50-$100 range, if that is possible I would really like to have a nice tank to keep in my dorm hte next few years.
Thanks :happyfish

Hi, from experience don't get the xenia unless you get the suggested light above. But in my 10 gal I have assorted mushrooms and feather dusters you could add to. I just posted "10 gal " take a look at my 10 gal, nothing to brag about believe me. I really need alot more rock and I would not mind some more different mushrooms too. I would like to get two more feather dusters for the other corner too.
I have been using a piece of PVC pipe to hold my dusters upright. They seem to like it and do alot better too. Plus Mr. Hermit crab is not always at them picking away, my Sexy Shrimp, you have to get one of these has found that it can clean the tubes of the dusters in this pipe but does not seem to be causing any harm.
I would love to have that light setup and if this tank keeps doing well it will go on my Xmas wish list.
Good luck and enjoy..... :cheer:

I am going to get the lighting...I busted out the old change jar and I ended up having exactly enough! lol :joy:
I have a pair of peppermint shrimp and I had this nice rock with half a dozen little feather dusters on it, well the shrimps ripped them all off! They haven't bothered the large feather duster in the tank, but I really liked all the little ones! Are peppermint shrimp reef safe? Will it pull any polyps or anything off as well?
Once I get the lighting....later this week....would that make having an anemone for a perc or ocellaris clown to host possible, or do all the species get to large?
Debbie...I liked your tank pics...how do you get them to come out good? I can never get good pics of mine and I would love to show people.
Thanks for any input!!! :happyfish

Peppermint Shrimp are reef safe but the Catalina ones need cool water conditions (50 to 68 degrees F)

I cannot comment about the peppermint shrimp. I only know that I would never put them into my tank as I know they are related to the camel back shrimp whom so graciously cleaned out my tank and feather dusters.
I would put in a cleaner shrimp and the sexy shrimp though.
As for the pictures, those are not really good ones. Look as some of the pic in the photo section. But I use my macro setting when I am taking close up pictures. I take tons of them before I end up with a good one. My camera is the Sony 3.2 digital
