Heater, skimmer, fuge/macro "grower" absolutly. But the purpose of a QT is to separate it from the display tank to prevent the spread of disease if present and make it easier to treat anything that somehow becomes ill, (there are almost no medications that are safe for corals and inverts). i like inverts.. is my cleanup crew big enough? I belive so. my fav fish r the clowns but i wanted a bigger 'center piece' if i have enough room. i like gobys...

STOCK LIST:
INVERTS

10x hermit crabs (assorted)
10x turbo/astrea snails
3x emerald crabs 2 would probably be just fine

1x sally lightfoot
1x purple lobster
2x cleaner shrimp
1x coral banded shrimp (mated pair) One of the more aggressive, might be iffy with the cleaners in there, they could very easily have them for lunch

2x fire shrimp Really not sure abou this many shrimp in a tank this small

1x elegant seastar -fromia starfish
1x red/orange frilly sponge
3-6x plants SW plants are hard to come by, atleast from my area, and I dont believe there are many that will work in the home aquairum

1-2x deep sea yellow gorgonian
1-2x red gorgonian
3x feather duster
1-3x anemone? I dont think your lights will support an anemone, and more than one in a tank this small could cause big issues, has it been done yes, keyword was COULD

1x derasa/maxima clam? Lights dont really support this either, IR HO T5's or MH's would be the only thing able to keep a clam alive

FISH

1x false percula clownfish (mated pair)

1-2x pajama cardinal
1-2x 3 striple damsel
1-2x blue damsel
1x purple pseudochromis
1x diamond goby
1x blue hippo tang? Your tank is way to small for this guy and the yellow, I wouldnt put either in my 90, tangs SHOULD have plenty of swimming room, espesially these 2 familys, this means a 6ft tank is HIGHLY recomened

1x yellow tang?
more goby's?
This is way to many fish IMHO, id try and get it down to 4 maybe 5 fish, and id leave the damsels out of the picture entirely.....

CORAL

no idea, i want a variety, easy to care for, & colorful..
This is where you can really have fun! There are SOOO many different corals out there, I would stick with softies and lps with your lighting though, im not a huge sps fan myself anyway.

Hope this helps..

oops didnt see that last part, why do you not recommend damsels? is there some other type of small small small reef safe fish? like tiny minows or something?

The fuge is the area of the sump where the macro algae grows and helps lower nitrates, its also a breading place for pods and other good things.
You want your QT to be a totally separate tank.
I think if you got rid of the CBS the other 4 would be fine, but im no expert when it comes to inverts so I would let someone else chime in here.
If you went with different lights you should abosolutly be able to keep an anemone and/or a clam. Truthfully, if your anemone was at the top of the tank you might be able to keep one with those lights, but it would be iffy I would think, but the clam will probably almost cirtanly have to have Individually reflected T5's or a metal halide.
Damsels are mean little SOB's. Even though they are small and some very attractive, they will stand up to and pick on just about anything. Chromis are a little nicer to other fish, but im not sure about how much room there is for them in a 30. A royal gramma or a blackcap basslet should go fine in there. There are lots of other small fish, gobies, blennys, cardinals, dwarf angels, clowns, and maybe even a small wrasse like a sixline.
I have absolutly no idea on the starfish, IIRC most arent reef safe, id wait for someone else to shine some light here.

the "deep sea yellow, and red gorgonians" they are not for a beginner. they are non-photosynthetic, and requires alot of food in the water and strong, turbulent flow. i'd scratch those off the list for a while.
the fromia starfish are some of the most difficult to keep. most of them won't make it more thna a few months. i would suggest a banded serpent star. they are very hardy and will accept meaty foods right from your hand.
i've never had any problem keeping coral banded shrimp with other shrimp, but i'm talking about tanks over 100 gallons, not a 30. i'm going to have to agree with sman, about these.
the purple pseudo might turn out to be a headache as well. we had one in a 30 cube and it was extremely aggressive. it even attacked the shrimp. a very territorial fish.
i'd rather have more emerald crabs than hermits. they are most likely going to kill your snails. get 1 or two, just to watch, but i wouldn't get 10.
the fire shrimp are beautiful, but they hide alot. we see them in the lfs tansk, where there is no rocks or hiding places. i had one in my tank, and never saw him.
i also agree about the aggressive damsels.

the royal gramma is much like the purple pseudo.
10 fish is too many for your tank.
the serpent star will fit fine. full grown they will open up to about the size of a coffee cup saucer, but they don't take up that much space. most of the time you'll just see a few legs poking out of the rockwork, until he smells some food.
he'll come out and take it right from your hand. a good scavenger.
the cerith snails will burrow in the sand bed and you'll never see them again. what do you want snails for? to eat algae? then get snails that eat algae off of the glass and rock. astrea are better for that. turbos are best, but they are too big and will knock over things often.
the soft corals will be fine in your tank with the pc lighting.

thats why i changed to cerith snails.. i was reading the turbo / astrea will knock things over. im guessing the cerith's dont eat algae? i have no big snails now im not sure their species..they might be turbos but they dont move much. ones been chillin by my rock for 2 or 3 days the other was chillin for a whole day and just moved.
should i glue my lr together? i was thinking of drilling small holes and glueing plastic rods in to hold everything together.. i should get my rocks tomorrow.
what if i scrap the royal gramma and the midas blenny. the neon gobys are 1/2 inch should i maybe only get 2 or 1?

astrea are ok. the only problem i see with them is if they fall off of the rock or glass, they can't upright themselves. they cruise around and do their thing, just like any other snail. it's the turbos that actually move corals, and even small rocks. they also get to be about the size of a small egg.
i have some cerith in my tank. they went into my sandbed and never came out.

i might have 2 astrea's i watched one fall off and watched him struggle to upright himself for about an hour. i finally steped in and let him suction to the glass..i think my snails died though..i dont have any algea in my tank and they havnt moved for a few days..im going to town tomorrow to get well needed supplies. ill take a picture a lil later and see if u can id them. there like small eggs..
ps- has anyone ever told you how
helpfull you are X?

yeah there turbos, i went to my lfs for some much needed supplies and he confirmed. one snail did die.. but i moved the other and the hermit into my qt for the time being. i bought a pajama cardinal too
he's acclimating. i still dont have my RO maker set up so i filled it with culligan water. i should be getting some of my lr today so ill drain my 30 gal and start on that. i bought some superglue for the lr. it says its water proof does this mean its marine safe? ill post some pics in a few
