Okay...I am almost done cycling and want to start adding in new fish.....
I have 18lb of rock (9lb Live) and 4 damsels (all to go soon):
What is realistic to add:
i was told no tangs, triggers, or puffers (obviously I am new to this and can use some advice)
How bout a couple of maroon clowns (or just one) and a LM blenny to start. are there any other fish that you can recommend???? not a big fan of the chromis types and looking for some colorful fish.
I do NOT plan to make it a reef tank.
Thanks!!

I like the Royal Gramma, and you could have two maroons with it as well. The Maroons can get up to 4 inches and I have seen them bigger, so with two you wont have alot of space for more fish.
I also like Cardnials, the Dwarf Coral Beauty, the Dwarf Lemon Peel Angel and Dwarf Flame Angel. I also like the Hawk Fish and Six line Wrasse.
You need to make sure you dont over stock your tank. I like to follow the 1 inch Adult fish per 2 gallon rule.

Thanks for the help i REALLY appreciate it....I want to do this right....
What do you think of this:
1-2 clowns (maroon, tomato or oceanis) 3" for one
royal gramma (3")
Half black angel (4")
a LM blenny (2-3")
What do you guys think of a Valentini puffer -- only about 4 " or so and I have read that they can be in a 25-30 gal tank. I would put this in instead of the angel.
Also, could i put in juvi's of larger fish (instead of the above) if i plan to move them in about a year of 2? How fast do these fish grow?
THANKS AGAIN!!!

I just check one of my books and two web sites and:
Maroon Clowns get up to 6 inches
Tomato Clowns - 5 inches
I have not heard of a half black Angel but the Black Angel gets up to 8 inches.
Most fish hit thier adult size in 6 - 8 months

I looked it up and a 29 gallon tank will do for it but it is Semi - aggressive so I would make sure that I didnt feed it a very expensive meal. I know that they will eat smaller fish.
Thanks, glad to help

the half black angel you are referring to, is it half yellow also? if it is then its a bicolor angel.

No its a half black...i know what hes talkin about. My lfs shop has one
"Common Name - Half Black Pygmy Angelfish
Scientific name - Centropyge vroliki
Appearance - Grey front and rear half of body is black with bright blue edge to anal and tail fin. Size ranges from 1 inch to 2 inches.
Location - Western Pacific from Japan to the Great Barrier Reef, including Christmas Islands.
Comments - Once past acclimation this fish is very hardy and eats well. As with all centropyge it will feed on flake foods but will do much better on a variety of small bite-size frozen foods, such as mysis shrimp. These fish enjoy having access to hiding places. Tanks with live or decorative corals, rock and algae are great. Position the rock openly so as to create many passages."

Also remeber that in most cases mixing clowns is not a good idea. Also only one marron clown is recommemded unless you buy them as a matedpair(well they dont have to necesarily be mated but must be coexisting in the same tank)

id say go with 2 clowns...(percula or ocellaris)
royal gramma ( i have one and an awesome fish)
half black angel (or some other kind of dwarf angel ie coral beauty, flame, bicolor)
and instead of the lmb i would do 1-2 purple firefish

half black angels (dwarf) grow up to 5 inches but generally 2 to 4 and should be kept in 40 gallon or larger.....i dont' have one....just what i've found on them....i considered the same thing at one point for my little tank

i would say go with about 3 fish.a clown, a dwarf angel(they are nice looking fish)if you get an angel make sure to add it last, and maybe a royal gramma or a firefish. i also have a 29 gallon and i would not put more than 3 fish. you dont want to be over stocked. but this is all just my opinion.

I 2nd the quote about the angel, add it last. I wouldnt do any puffer, I think the tank is too small for one, thats just me though.

I had a puffer in my 29g but he began to kill some of my inverts. so i gave him away
But he did fine and never attacked my tricolor wrasse. (his only tankmate)
