storing salt

Today I bought a big bag of salt. Before I always bought a small box so it got used up pretty quickly. How do I store it? Does it need to be in a sealed container?

It won't go bad as long as you don't spill anything in it. If you keep it sealed it will stay granular better, but even if it clumps from humidity it is ok.

Twist the top of the bag and use something like a rubberband or rope to tie off the end. Store it in a dark, dry place.

I use a tropic marin salt bucket that I used up to store my IO.
After Katrina, TM was hard to come buy but I got HUGE case of IO for a good price. I think I like it better anyway!

I bought one of them 50 gal oceionc salts that come in the plastic bottel. I use oceonc in my reff and insant ocean in my fish only tank since it is a little cheeper. Anyway I put the insant ocean in one of the jugs from the oceanoic. Maybe you could use like a jug of some type. I know when I left it in the bag it always started geting real wet.

I think you want to make sure moisture stays out. Moisture may cause it to clump together.

I Thought all the larger over 50 gal size of salt comes in like a 5 gal pale. Well at least around hear. if it is a 50 gal mix bag it should fit in a couple dried out water jugs and store real nice.
