Strange lighting question

I just got a 96w power compact with new bulbs from a friend, had no idea what I was going to use it for since it was only 96w. Then I started thinking, if I made a plexi 20 gallon, shallow tank and mounted this light above it, it would give me almost 5w per gallon of lighting. Would this work for a "mini" frag tank (zoo's only)

One of those situations where I got the light for a screaming price, and had no idea what to use it for cause it's 36". This sounds like a fun project, I'll post picks of the new mini frag tank later this week.

I have a 20" 96-watt light on my 20L and have an assortment of hardy sps (monti/porities), a yellow leather, and out-of-control xenia... its a great little light.

however it sounds like you have the coralive quad light? I believe those come in something like 6500K? So not only do they have a higher PAR, but they are also more concentrated than a normal 96 watt PC light. I wouldnt keep SPS under either personaly. But you would have less of a chance of having any color under the 36" one.

true, true... but, i am not talking about ultra-delicate tri-color acro's or anything. I just love the look of a digit Porities field near the top, and big outstretched overhangs from my monti cup's. The Quad's we sell anyways come in 50/50, but we sell a lot of the 6500K lights for refugiums. As with any aspect of saltwater aqauriums everything is systemic, a million ways to float your boat...

It's a 10k Satellite 96 Watt Compact Fluorescent Fixture withSmartPaq Lamp (10,000K Day and 460nm Actinic) I'm not going to plumb it into main system, due to space issues. This one is going into another room, but will plumb it with fuge with it's own light, fluval 404 canister & 1" LS bed.
