I woke uo this morning and turned on my lights to my tank. I was looking around when I saw my purple mushroom have something coming out of his mouth and white stuff curled up around the outside of it. What was it. After a while the thing from its mouth disappeared.

can't help you with exactly what it is but can tell you my mushrooms do it also. I noticed they do it primarily when I clean the tank or do a major water change. Sometimes it comes out as spider webb mucus other times it comes out as a dull white spaghetti. I have had the mushrooms for appx. 8 months now without any problems. I think they do it to protect themselves.

the white curly stuff that the mushrooms are extruding are their acotina fillaments. if they are stressed at all or are possibly gettign stung, they expell these thigns as a defensive response. if you rub a mushroom with your finger after awhile you will see them doign this because they are stressed. most other corals can do this as well, i see it from time to time on my moon, and red brain coral. its a normal process and nothign to be worried about. good luck
