This popped into my head earlier and now it is bugging me. If I added 1 gallon of top-off water to the tank every day for a week, would that = a 7g water change??? My gut says no but I want other thoughts and opinions.

I'll try to expand on cheers in depth answer....:D Adding top off water just replaces the water that evaporated....it doesn't remove anything like a water change...in fact since only the water evaporated, it may add more unless totally pure. Water changes can remove things that are building up, and have little or no form of export. It's your choice, but topping off doesn't do anything really like a water change, and if anythings in the top off water.....it will actually add things.

hey aggie 04, where do you party in C.S.? I graduated a couple years back and spent most of my time on North gate. Use to bar tend at the Dry Bean for 3 years. Lots of stories as you can imagine.

I would also venture a guess that you aren't replenishing trace elements present in salt mix when you don't do water changes ... That is unless you are dosing.

Thanks all. I am doing water changes....not just adding topoff thinking it is a change. After I thought about it for a sec I realized why they call it a water change...you change things not add things. I do use ro/di for topoff and WC but i just was wondering. Thanks for answering my question.;)
