Stray Voltage

In all the years of keeping fish I have never had stray voltage, until now

After spending all afternoon yesterday setting up the 45 for the 2 girls, I was met by a horrific site in the horse tank this morning.
Sasha was on the sand bed...
looked dead, and my new little girl was floating at the top of the tank twitching.

I started a pot of coffee and dragged myself back to the tank. I went to scoop up Sasha's body, as I did her little tail took a death grip on my ring finger. She's ALIVE
Then I notice a itchy, odd jolt/sting running into my arm and hand!!!!!!!! It took me a few moments to figure out what it was. I hitched Sasha to a plant and imediately unplugged the heater. The second I did both horses stopped twitching and began swimming weakly.
Sasha is much more affected by the trama than her new little friend. I guess kids bounce back easier. When I last looked, Sasha was clinging to a branch, I can sympathize with her~ growing up on a farm I've be zapped by our electric fences many times...but I'm not a seahorse. Her younger friend seems to be bouncing back and has resumed swimming and exploring the new tank.
What can/should I expect in the next 24 hours??? How long until I can breathe easy again? What kind of effects does this have on fish?????

keep the tank dark today, and let them rest. Keep an eye on them. if you ntice and discoloration you may need to treat for secondary infections. if thier skin touched anything, they may get a sore. I keep a grounding prob in my horse tank.
I got zapped on my 150 a couple of weeks ago, but it didnt effect my fish any.

To be prepared for side effects what type of treatments/meds would you suggest?
Thank you,

yeah, keep the tank dark, don't bother them too much. they just need to swim around and rest for a day or so and they should be fine if they werent killed by the initial shocking.

The little female seems to be back to normal, but Sasha did not make it

Thank you all for your help.

Sorry for your loss. I've never kept seahorses, but I know what it's like to lose stuff to some stupid fluke.

soo sorry, I too know what its like to loose them.
you can get a grounding prob for about 14 bucks. It would prob cost more to try and make one.

Knowing that it is your heater the GFI will prevent that from happening again.
If it was an el' cheapo, then I would buy a better one.

You can make one with a stainless steel rod,

[hr]
, etc, a hunk of wire, and a 1 Megaohm resistor.
Probably wouldn't cost more than about $2 to make.

Hmmm... perhaps it's time for me to do up a DIY probe and put a tutorial on my web site. I wouldn't have thought there'd be this much interest.
