Grounding probes are not a bad thing to have in your tank as they could potentially save your life, where they can be a bad thing is using them to dissapate stray current without fixing the problem. Also they need to be used with a GFCI outlet.

Go with a GFCI. Grounding probes are fine but its safer to use GFCI
GFCI alone doesn't protect the aquatic life in your tank if you happen to get a short.
